Pita Bread RecipeThis should be started about 2 hours before you want to eat. Make extra so that you can have them for lunch. Pita bread pockets are great breads for falafel or tuna fish sandwiches. Ingredients
Directions Mix yeast and sugar with one cup of water in a bowl and let sit for 10 minutes. Mix in 1 cup of wheat flour, and let sit for 30 minutes, until the mixture is frothy. Heat oven to 450°F. Mix in remaining flour, water and salt, and kneed for 10 minutes. Cover the bowl and let it raise for 1 hour until the mixture doubles in size. Separate into 8 equal balls, cover with a damp cloth, and let the balls rest for 10 minutes. With a rolling pin, roll out each ball to about 1/8 inch thick. Bake for 5 minutes until they puff up into balls. |
